About Us

Cycling provides fun and enjoyment whilst also helping to keep us healthy. We made a decision to follow our personal passion for cycling and keeping active by turning it into a service for you, our customers. We’re therefore able to bring you our comprehensive and expert advice, knowledge of the latest trends and accessories in the world of cycling, and expert assessment of the pros and cons of specific machines. All this is channelled into helping you make the right choice when it comes to selecting the right bike, the right accessory or finding the right person to work on your bike.

Our workshop employs only specialists who can offer you a professional service. Expert, qualified mechanics get your bike going again, carry out repairs and help you with any other problems you may have. And our advice doesn’t stop on the day – we are always happy to help you out.

Our first shop in Dallow Street, Burton on Trent was establised about 46 years ago and started life as Mellor Cycles. It originally occupied the corner shop across the road from its current location. It quickly outgrew the small shop and when the ‘Star Inn’ public house came up for sale, the Mellor family saw its potential and snapped it up. It changed ownership in 1983 and changed its name to ‘Cycling 2000’ and quickly built a reputation as a Touring Bike Specialist.

Since then it has explored different markets whilst keeping abreast of the latest trends and fashions in cycling. We bought the shop in November 2014 and aim to build on this reputation and develop a friendly shop for the local community. We stock a wide range of Road Bikes and Mountain Bikes for both ladies and gents, there are Hybrids and Commuters in stock and even Electric Bikes available. Our selection of quality children’s bikes is the best in the area with a huge range of Frog and Dawes Academy bikes always in stock.

Exactly 3 years after opening in Burton, our second shop was opened in Lichfield. For many years the shop in Lichfield was run as Grahams Cycles and once Graham decided to retire we saw the opportunity to bring Cycling 2000 to the people of Lichfield.

We have introduced more than 30 new brands to the shops since we took over and aim to secure more to ensure we give you a shop with choice whilst ensuring you, our customer is at the forefront of everything we do.

Cycling 2000 specialises in bike maintenance and exceptional customer service and we aim to continue making our customers happy by doing the ordinary things extraordinarily well.

After spending nearly 25 years working in Automotive Sales Management, I left it all behind to follow a dream and to see if I could make the transition from 4 wheels to 2. My goal was to use all of the knowledge and experience gained in a high expectant customer satisfaction environment and replicate that into the cycling world. And change that world into one where satisfied is deemed a failure, only extremely satisfied is good enough.

Having spent the first 10 years of my working life in retail and then 10 years as a National Accounts Manager with Toshiba, I moved to France with my family to eat bread and cheese and run our own holiday company, specializing in Skiing and Cycling holidays. After almost 15 years in France I am now back in the UK living in Ashbourne and following my passion for all things “Cycling” and loving being a part of our ever growing family business Cycling 2000.

Throughout my childhood, BMX riding was my passion. Once I left school I had the choice of a career with Unilever or following my love of bikes and going into the cycle industry. Having completed my apprenticeship with Cycling 2000 I am now a fully qualified CYTECH bike technician looking after the busy workshop at the Burton store.
